Although a number of machines are necessarily used in our production, ultimately each cabinet is very much a hand made item.
This starts at the very outset when we first select our timber. As timber is a natural organic material, with every piece being unique and individual, this is a painstaking experts task to ensure that the right timber is used for the right purpose.
From this our team of component makers will carefully form and shape each cabinet part in all its detail to an exacting standard. This point is crucial as each complete cabinet is only the sum of its parts. The objective is that when the assembly team handbuild each cabinet there should be a perfect construction. To ensure a high quality build we design each joint for the very best in strength. This requires careful craftsmanship but the result is that, such is the quality at this stage, it is possible to assemble each cabinet without any glue or fixings and it will hold together.
So now it is down to our team of constructors. At this stage they will build each cabinet by hand including all doors, drawers and all other fittings. Once they are happy with a perfect build the doors and drawers and other fittings are once again removed and carefully marked in preparation for finishing.
Our finishers will now check every aspect for a completely clean construction, removing any surplus glue and fine hand sanding every detail prior to applying the finishing process.
Our finishing process requires great skill. Initially cabinets are hand sprayed with a primer to ensure the best paint adhesion. This is followed by a further mid coat. Finally there are two top coats. For Chichester this is hand painted and Henley is a subtle process to produce a consistent glorious naturally aged oak. Between every finishing stage further careful hand sanding takes place.
Now we are ready for final assembly, where each cabinets’ various parts are reunited with our high quality hardware. After a thorough final check we hand pack each cabinet ready for hand delivery to your door. The result of many talented hands is now yours for a lifetime of enjoyment.
