The Guide: where to shop this September (1)

We love to shop. We have our firm favourites but we equally adore finding hidden gems and disclosing our newly-discovered secrets with each other on a Monday morning. So we decided to start The Guide – a monthly edition to our blog where we reveal our hush-hush haunts.

Share them selectively, you wouldn’t want just anyone finding out…

Edition #4

September = stationary

Late August and very early September always make us think of stationery. We think it’s probably the ‘back to school’ mindset that never seems to quite leave us, even when we’re all grown up. Gone are the days though of stationery shopping being simply for school. Staplers have turned savvy, hole punchers are officially stylish, and even the cello tape dispenser has become a thing of beauty. Stationery has found its stride and our home offices have never looked so good. This is stationery for adults and alumni.

A few words

Katie Leamon’s brand strapline is ‘luxury cards & stationery proudly made in England’. She has her design studio in London and a family-run production studio in the countryside where every one of her creations is made by hand. Launched in 2011, her work feels slightly vintage with lots of monochrome and a touch of metallic here and there.

The assorted pencil set. It was no easy feat picking just one thing, but for us stationery all starts with the perfect pencil. And that’s precisely what these are.

A British design studio created by Sarah Silver. She says that she’s inspired by “modern and graceful design across fashion, interiors and art” and uses that passion, combined with her background in fine jewellery and editorial design, to make her internationally-acclaimed collection of notebooks and greeting cards.

Her A5 Luxe Notebooks have gold gilt edging and gold rivets. They come in four colours but we love the marble and dusty pink ones the most.

This relatively new Swedish boutique is a little unusual but in a very lovely way. From diaries to all your stationery staples (no pun intended), everything is very simple in its aesthetic with a well-considered approach to colour. You can shop it online or visit its little shop in London’s Covent Garden where they run workshops on topics like organisation and mindfulness.

The Thrive Letter Set. Because we’re big supporters of protecting the cherished tradition of letter writing.

A few words

Husband and wife duo, Steve Harris and Vanessa Jones, set up this small rural business as a way to slow down their pace of life to do the things they love with family all around. Their online store is a stationer’s dream; never have we seen such beautifully decorated lever arch files! And once again, it’s all hand-made in Britain.

The lever arch file in Pollen Night is a particular favourite of ours with NC Hedgerow coming in second place as a cute and country alternative.

A few words

Not only does Quill London craft their own designs in-house, but they also pull together very select pieces from other brands across the world. It goes without saying that its modern calligraphy pieces are a real must-have, but there’s everything from notebooks and journals to gift wrapping to indulge in too.

The Kate Spade stapler and cello tape holder where gold and acrylic come together.

More in October. See you then x
