For us, the best design is that which lasts and lasts, which is why we set out to not only create a headboard that’ll endure in terms of style (taking its cues from classics of the past and imbuing them with a contemporary simplicity) but also physically too, by crafting it from high quality hardwood and natural fabrics that’ll stand up to everyday life brilliantly.
While we imagined Clemmie being used with our Chichester or Montague bed bases (the latter made up in matching fabric, and the former for the contrast of painted timber), we know that might not be how you want to use it. So, it comes with sturdy timber struts that’ll attach to most bed bases, and it also has a strong timber French cleat that you can use to easily hang it on a wall. Either way, it’s designed to sit flush with the top of your bed base for a seamless look, and so has a recessed section to accommodate your mattress.
The statement headboards used in hotels that inspired Clemmie are, more often than not, in king and super king sizes, so we knew that, if we were to translate that look into a piece for the home, we’d need to come up with a design that could work just as well in single and double sizes. Our designer, Henry, developed a neat stepping solution that meant each size kept the iconic curves in some way but the smaller ones wouldn’t look too busy.
Tailored to you
Clemmie can be upholstered in any of our textiles which means that there’s lots of possibility to make it your own. If you want your focal point to be more of a quiet statement, opt for a plain linen in a tonal shade to your wall colour. If you want to add sumptuous depth, choose one of our rich cotton velvets. If you want a headboard that’ll bring texture and form to your room, choose one of our printed linen-cottons and define the edges in piping that picks out a colour from the pattern.
