cool, classic white kitchens
White is having a real moment. White jeans are back, bigtime. White stationery is everywhere (Smythson, we’re looking at you in particular). And white accessories are the new favourite. Interiors aren’t being left out either. Just like in fashion, the white-on-white movement is gaining an impressive number of followers with its simple Nordic style stamp, and a new way of doing monochrome is being enjoyed nearly as much (these days it’s more about 75% white, 25% black).
Sometimes the best ‘trends’ are the ones that don’t fade away; it’s what differentiates a trend from a classic. Just like the crisp white shirt, the classic white kitchen never falls out of style. Need convincing? Read on. Agree? You best read on too…
The key behind this look is the interplay between contemporary-cool mixed with a degree of tradition.
There are so many white kitchens out there that are all of one, and all of the other. Ceiling to floor, high-gloss cabinets stood on poured concrete floors with minimal ornamentation is one example. White cupboards with wooden countertops and matching knobs on oak floorboards is another. Don’t get us wrong, we love them too, but this look is more about a bit of both. Not too contemporary that you enter ‘fad’ territory but not so traditional that it feels staid and done before. There’s an equilibrium somewhere.
B is for balance
