Modern slavery statement

Introduction

At Neptune, we believe in doing the right thing by all our people, whether they work for us at our Wiltshire headquarters, our production house overseas, or for the suppliers we trust to make the products we don’t make ourselves. There is no place for modern slavery or human trafficking in any of our supply chains.

Our organisation's purpose

We design, manufacture and sell beautiful furniture and furnishings for the home. Our UK headquarters are in Wiltshire and we have stores throughout the UK and Europe. Neptune is owned by our directors Giles Redman and John Sims-Hilditch and their families and has around 350 employees in the UK and 450 in China.

Our supply chains

Almost all our wooden furniture, which makes up between 75 and 80% of our turnover, is made in our production house in Qingdao, China. Unusually in the furniture industry, we founded the site ourselves, and retain full control and ownership of it. The workshop is Neptune through and through and produces nothing but Neptune designs. As it is truly part of Neptune we can guarantee its operations are free of modern slavery. The workshop operates to the same exacting standards as we do in our UK office, with a deep respect for local customs and traditions.

As for the raw materials and other components we use, the timber in our furniture comes from US forests. The fabric in our upholstery comes from Belgian and Chinese mills and suppliers. Other components, such as paint and ironmongery, are sourced from China.

Sometimes we rely on the expertise of other producers, so some of our home accessory products are sourced from other suppliers, mainly in the UK and China, and also in Europe and Asia. We personally visit and audit all those suppliers.

Our policies on slavery and human trafficking

We are committed to ensuring that there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains or in any part of our business. Our anti-slavery policy and responsible sourcing code of practice (to which we require all our suppliers to adhere) reflect our commitment to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure slavery and human trafficking is not taking place anywhere in our supply chains.
