A closer look at Hugo

Along with Finian, Hugo’s one of our thickest, strongest linens. It has a firm, even texture and holds its shape well, so it’s great for curtains and upholstery. If you’re after a timeless linen that will work on a sofa for years to come, take a closer look at Hugo.

The textile

100% linen. Hugo has a very even, broad weave with just a few heavy slubs here and there to show it’s made of pure linen. We wind several strands together to make the yarn, which gives Hugo a strength that’s designed to last. It’ll feel cool in summer and warm in winter, so you can use it all year round.

A note on slubs

Joining natural fibres together creates raised parts in the thread, known as slubs. They’re not flaws, just part of the fabric’s character.

How it feels

Hugo’s closely woven threads make for a crisp, smooth fabric with a slight sheen. It’s also one of our softest pure linens. There’s a warmth to it that’s almost like wool, so it’s great for layering with cosier textiles. And in summer, it adapts to feel cool, thanks to linen’s natural breathability.

The colour - Pale Oat

Like all our plain linens, Hugo’s yarn dyed. This means the threads are dyed before they’re woven, for a greater depth of colour. It comes in six warm shades – this one’s Oat, a pale beige that works well with pastels or brighter splashes of colour.

Where we see it

Thanks to its strong texture, Hugo is great for covering sofas and armchairs. It also makes lovely curtains and Roman blinds if you like these to have a tailored look, with a heavy drape like wool or velvet. It has a high rub count - this means it resists lots of wear – so it’s ideal for furniture that gets lots of use.

Just so you know

There can be some colour variation between different batches of our fabric – we try to make them as small as possible, but it’s something to be expected with natural fibres. If you’re using this fabric more than once in the same room, we recommend ordering as many metres as you need in one go - that way, we can make sure it’s all from the same batch.
