And for those that just want to shut it all away at the end of the day. Our original workstation is a step up from a desk, but smaller than the deluxe version.

Materials

When it comes to timber for painting, you can’t really do better than tulipwood. It’s not much to look at on its own, but it’s got a barely-there grain that guarantees a smooth finish when it’s painted. It’s also a hardwood, which means it’s strong and durable. There’s a touch of oak in there too on the pull-out worktop, this time unpainted because it would be a real shame to cover oak up.

The finish: paint

You might think hand-painting is best – usually anything done by hand is best – but that’s not always the case. Take our pieces: we’ll spray paint them a few times (and, if they need it, a few times more) and then finish off with a brush. Because that’s the way to get a properly perfect finish. Just know that it’s not a bomb-proof one. But that’s the beauty of painted timber: it’s touch-up ready.

The finish: oak

Meet IsoGuard® – our timber treatment oil. In a nutshell, it makes oak easier to live with. Think of it as a bit of a defence barrier, but one that you can’t see, feel or would ever know was there. If you’d like to know all the science-y stuff behind it, you can find that here.

Adjustable shelves in the base and mid-section cabinets, ventilation holes, cable management, a pull-out keyboard shelf, space for monitors, computer towers and printers: Chichester’s got everything you need for an organised workspace. It’s also split into three so even when you’ve got the middle section open to use the desk, you can hide what’s in the top and bottom.
