Chichester Countertop Washstand, Right

Change colour

A closer look at Chichester

This washstand was designed for the smallest of spaces, for tiny bathrooms and downstairs loos. But despite its neat size, it’s still practical, with a small-but-useable basin and a countertop design that leaves room for hidden-away shelving beneath. It’s also made from natural timbers in our classic, understated Chichester style.

Materials

When it comes to painted timber, we use tulipwood – a strong and resilient hardwood. Its fine, almost knot-free grain makes it perfectly suited to a painted finish, so you get the best of both worlds – strength and smoothness. The exposed timber top though is solid oak, with all of the natural knots and colour variations that are part of its charm (we’ve written more about oak’s qualities here).

The finish: paint

Not every piece of furniture and every colour of paint needs the same process – a ‘one finish suits all’ approach won’t ever give you the best result possible. That’s why we vary the number of coats and use both hand-painted and spray-painted techniques depending on what that shade requires.

The finish: IsoGuard®

Chichester’s oak top is protected with IsoGuard®, our timber treatment oil that helps to prevent stains and spills from setting in, like water rings from cups without coasters. And it does all of this without masking the natural look and feel of oak like most lacquers and sealers do.

The basin

All our bathroom basins are ceramic – it’s the material we’ve found to be the best combination of durability and looks. Here, it’s a classic bowl shape that’s designed to leave plenty of room on top for a tap and accessories, but that’s still large enough for hand-washing and face-cleansing.

What about taps?

We haven’t included a tap with this washstand, so you can pick the style that suits you most. For that reason, we also haven’t drilled tap holes into the worktop – your plumber will be able to do this for you though. The taps we’d recommend are either single lever or wall-mounted designs.

Storage

You’ll find an adjustable shelf inside the cupboard. This rests on our zigzag shelf supports – a design that’s both attractive to look at (made from tulipwood and painted in the same colour as the interior) and strong. They also make the shelf easy to move.

Design detail

This washstand is full of little details (on the door and drawer fronts and in the skirting) that give it a subtly traditional character. There’s also a rounded edge to the worktop to echo that of the basin.

Just so you know

The colours in our paint palette shown here are a close representation of their true shades, but to see the real thing, we suggest trying our sample paint pots.

This washstand comes with Chrome hardware – including muffled magnetic door catches and Chichester knobs – to match most tap finishes.

All our basins have ‘flip-top’ (also known as swivel) plugs. But, these can be easily removed if you’d prefer a different style.

This piece is made from natural timber, which will expand (slightly) and shrink (just a little) as it responds to the humidity and temperature in your room. We’ve used joinery techniques that’ll help to counteract this, but small changes in your piece are completely natural and to be expected. Just know that, in the very unlikely event that there’s a significant change to the structure, we’ll be here to help.

Taking care

We’ve put together a series of guides on how best to take care of your Chichester washstand, so you can keep them looking as good as the day you first brought them home.

We take our delivery service seriously. Neptune transport, Neptune people, Neptune service.

Our white glove service means you’ll have a two-man delivery team. That means no heavy lifting on your part is needed. They’ll take it to your desired spot, assemble it for you and take away the packaging for recycling. The assembly service doesn't include fitted furniture.

For homes and customers outside of the UK and Ireland, our international team are here to help arrange shipping and delivery. Call us on +44 (0)1793 427 427 or e-mail  and together we’ll sort out the best method for you.

No-quibble returns

Returns should be easy, that’s why we have a ‘no quibble’ mindset.

If you decide on the day that it’s not for you then our delivery team can take it away for you there and then. But if you’d rather mull things over, you have 28 days to make up your mind. We do charge a pick-up fee of £29.95 here though, because we’ll need to send our delivery team back out.

And when it comes to designs upholstered in a made-to-order fabric or painted in a bespoke colour, there’s also a 20% returns/cancellation fee. We’d love to not have to charge a penny for this, but as they’re made just for you, we can’t always guarantee that we’ll be able to sell them again.

If you’ve bought something from us outside the UK or Ireland, just get in touch with the store you bought it from – or with our international team if you bought it through them – and they’ll let you know how you can return or exchange it.

And talk to our international team on +44 (0)1793 427 427 or at
