A closer look at Chichester

Chichester’s a collection for people who like traditional and classic English design. It’s a bed that’s timeless, from its style to its solid timber and proper joinery. The colour of its painted finish is simple to change later down the line too, as is its upholstered headboard, so it can live on and on. And its subtle details are as longlasting now as when we first designed them over a decade ago.

Materials

When it comes to painted timber, we use tulipwood – a strong and resilient hardwood. Its fine, almost knot-free grain makes it perfectly suited to a painted finish, so you get the best of both worlds – strength and smoothness.

Upholstery

The textile used on Chichester’s headboard, Imogen Holkham Sand, is woven from layers of both bleached and unbleached linen. It’s soft and has a relaxed texture that’s just right for bedrooms. If you’d like a change later down the line, the panel can be removed and reupholstered.

The bed base

Chichester’s sides sit snugly underneath the mattress to conceal the timber slats beneath and so it asks for a little less room. It also means you’re not as likely to bump your shins when walking around it in the dark.

The slats

Beech is used to make the slats on each of our beds because it’s flexible and reliable. They’re sprung, which means they curve upwards to provide a little extra bounce underneath the mattress. They’re held in place with discreet, cream-coloured clips. Beds larger than a single have an extra support in the centre too.

Design detail

Considered details in Chichester’s design (like scalloped corners on the base, grooves on each gently-tapered leg and ball finials on the bedposts) subtly elevate it: it’s simple, but not plain.

Just so you know

The colours in our paint palette shown here are a close representation of their true shades, but to see the real thing, we suggest trying our sample paint pots.

Our beds are designed to suit metric-sized mattresses (UK single, double, king and super-king sizes), like our own Barrington. They don’t come with the mattress or any bedding, so you can choose what suits you best, whether that’s a firm or medium mattress, cotton or linen sheets.

Taking care

We’ve put together this guide on taking care of your bed so that it stays looking as beautiful as the day you first brought it home.

We take our delivery service seriously. Neptune transport, Neptune people, Neptune service.

Our white glove service means you’ll have a two-man delivery team. That means no heavy lifting on your part is needed. They’ll take it to your desired spot, assemble it for you and take away the packaging for recycling. The assembly service doesn't include fitted furniture.

For homes and customers outside of the UK and Ireland, our international team are here to help arrange shipping and delivery. Call us on +44 (0)1793 427 427 or e-mail  and together we’ll sort out the best method for you.

No-quibble returns

Returns should be easy, that’s why we have a ‘no quibble’ mindset.

If you decide on the day that it’s not for you then our delivery team can take it away for you there and then. But if you’d rather mull things over, you have 28 days to make up your mind. We do charge a pick-up fee of £29.95 here though, because we’ll need to send our delivery team back out.

And when it comes to designs upholstered in a made-to-order fabric or painted in a bespoke colour, there’s also a 30% returns/cancellation fee. We’d love to not have to charge a penny for this, but as they’re made just for you, we can’t always guarantee that we’ll be able to sell them again.

If you’ve bought something from us outside the UK or Ireland, just get in touch with the store you bought it from – or with our international team if you bought it through them – and they’ll let you know how you can return or exchange it.

And talk to our international team on +44 (0)1793 427 427 or at
