Wardley four poster bed, oak

A closer look at Wardley

Wardley is our take on the traditional four-poster bed. It commands attention – as any four-poster will – but, with its pared-back frame, it still feels airy (even when hung with its curtains ). This oak version helps it to feel a bit more traditional, if you want something lighter than a classic four-poster, but not so contemporary as our painted Wardley bed.

Materials

We use oak because of its beautiful grain, its durability and its sense of heritage (we’ve written more on oak’s qualities here). Part of its character are its knots and variations in tone, so each piece will have its own hand-writing.

Finish

IsoGuard® is the treatment oil we developed to make oak surfaces easier to live with. The Chalked Oak finish on Wardley makes it slightly paler and highlights the grain, without masking its texture. It’s a fresh, pretty finish that’s perfectly suited to bedrooms and sits well with painted pieces.

Upholstery

The textile used on Wardley’s headboard, Imogen Holkham Sand, is woven from layers of both bleached and unbleached linen. It has a soft handle and a relaxed texture that’s just right for bedrooms. If you’d like a change later down the line, the panel can be removed and reupholstered.

The slats

Beech is used to make the slats on each of our beds because it’s flexible and reliable. They’re sprung, which means they curve upwards to provide a little extra bounce underneath the mattress. They’re held in place with discreet, cream-coloured clips. There’s an extra support in the centre too.

Design detail

Wardley can be disassembled, making it easy to manoeuvre in and out of doorways. But, we’ve used clever hidden brackets to secure the rails around its top, to ensure strength and sturdiness. It’s a detail that’s felt, rather than seen.

Just so you know

Because Imogen Holkham Sand is made from natural linen, tone and texture can vary and you can expect to see the occasional slub. We’ve written an article about the personality behind each of our fabrics, in case you’d like to get to know them better. Read on

Our beds are designed to suit metric-sized mattresses (UK single, double, king and super-king sizes), like our own Barrington. They don’t come with the mattress or any bedding, so you can choose what suits you best, whether that’s a firm or medium mattress, cotton or linen sheets.

Taking care

We’ve put together this guide on taking care of your bed so that it stays looking as beautiful as the day you first brought it home.

We take our delivery service seriously. Neptune transport, Neptune people, Neptune service.

Our white glove service means you’ll have a two-man delivery team. That means no heavy lifting on your part is needed. They’ll take it to your desired spot, assemble it for you and take away the packaging for recycling. The assembly service doesn't include fitted furniture.

For homes and customers outside of the UK and Ireland, our international team are here to help arrange shipping and delivery. Call us on +44 (0)1793 427 427 or e-mail  and together we’ll sort out the best method for you.

No-quibble returns

We believe that returns should be easy, that’s why we approach them with a ‘no quibble’ mindset. If you decide on the day that it’s not for you then our delivery team can take it away for you there and then, free of charge.

But if you’d rather mull things over, you have 28 days to make up your mind. We do charge a pick-up fee of £29.95 here though, because we’ll need to send our delivery team back out to your address for collection.

If you’ve bought something from us outside the UK or Ireland, just get in touch with the store you bought it from – or with our international team if you bought it through them – and they’ll let you know how you can return or exchange it.

You can find the store’s details online here.

And talk to our international team on +44 (0)1793 427 427 or at
