Chichester Grand Wardrobe

Change colour

A closer look at Chichester

This larger version of our Chichester wardrobe is classically English in style and suits country cottages as much as it does modern townhouses that want a touch of tradition in their bedroom’s interior. Or use it in a spacious hallway with an umbrella stand and coat rail to the side. Practicality wise, you’ll have shelf, drawer and hanging space – the best of all worlds.

The materials

When it comes to painted timber, we use tulipwood – a strong and resilient hardwood. Its fine, almost knot-free grain makes it perfectly suited to a painted finish, so you’ll benefit from both strength and smoothness. The exposed timber rail though is solid oak, with all of the natural knots and colour variations that are part of its charm (we’ve written more about oak’s qualities here).

The finish:paint

Not every piece of furniture and every colour of paint needs the same process – a ‘one finish suits all’ approach won’t ever give you the best result. That’s why we vary the number of coats and use both hand-painted and spray-painted techniques depending on what that shade needs most.

Storage

This wardrobe was designed with adaptability in mind, because no two people’s storage needs are the same. So, each of the two compartments has our adjustable zig-zag system and an oak hanging rail and painted shelf, to position exactly as you like. And there’s a generously sized drawer beneath each section too.

Design detail

The detailing on the door and drawer fronts, the cornice and the skirting all add just a hint of traditional style. What’s less noticeable at first – but just as important – are aspects like the load-bearing (and attractive) zig-zag shelving supports, the satisfying click of the chrome door catches, and the drawer that pulls out fully and closes softly.

Just so you know

The colours in our paint palette shown here are a close representation of their true shades, but to see the real thing, we suggest trying our sample paint pots.

This piece comes with both oak and chrome Chichester knobs, so you can choose whichever suits your room best.

We don’t include more than two shelves, otherwise you’d be paying for shelf space that you might prefer to take out. But if you do want to add more shelves, just get in touch with our care team.

Even if you put the oak rail at the highest peg on our zig-zag supports, extra-long pieces like gowns or floor-length coats might trail.

Taking care

We’ve put together this guide on taking care of your furniture so that it stays looking as beautiful as the day you first brought it home.

No-quibble returns

Returns should be easy, that’s why we have a ‘no quibble’ mindset.

If you decide on the day that it’s not for you then our delivery team can take it away for you there and then. But if you’d rather mull things over, you have 28 days to make up your mind. We do charge a pick-up fee of £29.95 here though, because we’ll need to send our delivery team back out.

And when it comes to designs upholstered in a made-to-order fabric or painted in a bespoke colour, there’s also a 30% returns/cancellation fee. We’d love to not have to charge a penny for this, but as they’re made just for you, we can’t always guarantee that we’ll be able to sell them again.

If you’ve bought something from us outside the UK or Ireland, just get in touch with the store you bought it from – or with our international team if you bought it through them – and they’ll let you know how you can return or exchange it.

And talk to our international team on +44 (0)1793 427 427 or at
