Chichester Housekeeper's Cupboard Base

Change colour

A closer look at Chichester

This piece actually forms the base of the housekeeper’s cupboard , but it’s just as useful on its own as a generous side table between a pair of twin beds or beneath a window in a living room – we like to put cushions on top and use it as a window seat. It’s part of our Chichester collection: a style that’s pared-back and timeless.

Materials

Where the timber is painted, we’ve used tulipwood – a hardwood that has a fine grain, so it creates a smooth finish. The exposed timber top though, is oak, with all of the knots and colour variations that are part of its charm (we’ve written more about oak’s qualities here).

The finish: paint

We take great care over our painted finishes and give every design exactly what it needs to make it robust. The number of base and top coats will vary according to how many that shade requires. And we use a mixture of spray-painted and hand-painted techniques so the finish is as perfect as can be.

The finish: IsoGuard®

Chichester’s top is protected with IsoGuard®, our timber treatment oil that makes the oak easier to live with yet doesn’t mask its natural texture. It does initially darken its appearance, but our Natural finish replenishes the original honey-toned colour.

Storage

The housekeeper’s base offers a great deal of storage, with three generously sized drawers. The largest could be used to keep blankets close to hand, while the top two can be combined with our smaller Ashcroft baskets (two of the small box trays fit well) to organise bits and bobs.

Design detail

Considered details (like the carved grooves that frame the drawers and the cut-out shape to the skirting) subtly elevate this piece: it’s simple, but not plain. There’s also a satisfying weight behind the drawers, which pull out fully so you can get right to the back, and then close again softly.

Just so you know

The colours in our paint palette shown here are a close representation of their true shades, but to see the real thing, we suggest trying our sample paint pots.

This piece comes with both oak and chrome Chichester knobs, so you can choose whichever suits your room best.

Taking care

We’ve put together this guide on taking care of your furniture so that it stays looking as beautiful as the day you first brought it home.

We take our delivery service seriously. Neptune transport, Neptune people, Neptune service.

Our white glove service means you’ll have a two-man delivery team. That means no heavy lifting on your part is needed. They’ll take it to your desired spot, assemble it for you and take away the packaging for recycling.

No-quibble returns

We believe that returns should be easy, that’s why we approach them with a ‘no quibble’ mindset. If you decide on the day that it’s not for you then our delivery team can take it away for you there and then, free of charge.

But if you’d rather mull things over, you have 28 days to make up your mind. We do charge a pick-up fee of £29.95 here though, because we’ll need to send our delivery team back out to your address for collection.
