Suffolk 3ft Contemporary Dresser

Change colour

A closer look at Suffolk

Dressers are often thought of as traditional pieces, but they can absolutely translate to a modern home. That’s where this piece comes in. Its details are understated: inspired by Shaker design, it finds beauty through utility, but we’ve added a few elements like the feet and cornice that are decorative but disciplined. Together with the softly-lit interior and glazed doors, they make this a contemporary classic.

Materials

This dresser is made using a mix of tulipwood and oak: tulipwood for painting, because its fine grain results in a super-smooth finish; and oak where the timber is exposed, because it’s full of variations and character that we love (we’ve written more about oak’s qualities here).

The finish: paint

We take great care over our painted finishes and give every design exactly what it needs to make it robust. The number of base and top coats will vary according to how many that shade requires. And we use a mixture of spray-painted and hand-painted techniques so the finish is as perfect as can be.

The finish: IsoGuard®

IsoGuard® is the treatment oil we developed to make oak surfaces easier to live with. The Seasoned Oak finish on Suffolk’s worktop and shelves adds a subtle grey undertone – like the beautiful silvered shades of weathered timber – without masking its texture.

In the making

In all our dressers, we use joinery techniques that help to counteract timber’s natural tendency to expand (slightly) and shrink (just a little) as it adjusts to the temperature and humidity of your home.

Design detail

Suffolk is as much about form as it is function. So, the shelf supports are made from painted timber to match the rest of the interior, in our zig-zag design that’s as attractive as it is load bearing. And the drawer closes softly using runners that are hidden away underneath.

The colours in our paint palette shown here are a close representation of their true shades, but to see the real thing, we suggest trying our sample paint pots.

We’ve included both oak and chrome Suffolk knobs, so you can choose whichever suits your room best.

This piece is made from natural timber, which will expand (slightly) and shrink (just a little) as it responds to the humidity and temperature in your room. We’ve used joinery techniques that’ll help to counteract this, but small changes in your piece are completely natural and to be expected. Just know that, in the very unlikely event that there’s a significant change to the structure, we’ll be here to help.

Taking care of your furniture

We’ve put together a series of guides on how best to take care of our pieces, so you can keep them looking as good as the day you first brought them home.

No-quibble returns

We believe that returns should be easy, that’s why we approach them with a ‘no quibble’ mindset. If you decide on the day that it’s not for you then our delivery team can take it away for you there and then, free of charge.

But if you’d rather mull things over, you have 28 days to make up your mind. We do charge a pick-up fee of £29.95 here though, because we’ll need to send our delivery team back out to your address for collection.
