Chichester 6-10 Seater Dining Table

A closer look at Chichester

The Chichester dining table, like the rest of this collection, embodies what classic English design means to us. Its details – such as the grooves at the bottom of each leg – are traditional but simple enough to be timeless. So is the way it combines a painted finish with an oak tabletop. This extending version seats six for everyday suppers, growing for gatherings of eight or ten.

Materials oak

Oak, because it’ll look more than good in your home. You can expect the odd knot here and the odd change in wood grain there – which means no two tables will ever look quite the same – but overall, it’s a well-balanced timber.

The finish: paint

When it comes to painted timber, we use tulipwood – a strong and resilient hardwood. Its fine, almost knot-free grain makes it perfectly suited to a painted finish, so you get the best of both worlds – strength and smoothness.

Finish: IsoGuard®

The oak tabletop is protected with IsoGuard®, our timber treatment oil. Think of it as a defence barrier, but one that you’d never know was there. IsoGuard® comes in a few finishes; this one’s Natural Oak, which, as the name suggests, gives the oak a subtle, honey-coloured look.

Finish: paint

Not every piece of furniture and every colour of paint needs the same process – a ‘one finish suits all’ approach won’t ever give you the best result possible. That’s why we vary the number of coats and use both hand-painted and spray-painted techniques depending on what that shade needs.

Design detail

The piece of timber that stretches from one side of the table to the other near the floor gives Chichester the feel of a traditional refectory table, but it’s also essentially practical, making it more stable. There are also two more pieces that join the legs together, but we’ve made these curved so someone can still sit on the ends even when it’s not extended.

How it extends

Extending tables are great, but only when they’re not a pain to use. You’ll be glad to know that’s not the case with Chichester. All you need to do is pull out one (for eight places) or both (for ten) of the leaves from underneath the ends of the table, and slot them up to meet the top. It’s something you can do alone, but you may need someone else to hold the table steady.

Taking care of Chichester

We’ve put together this guide on taking care of your dining table, so that it stays looking as beautiful as the day you first brought it home.

We take our delivery service seriously. Neptune transport, Neptune people, Neptune service.

Our white glove service means you’ll have a two-man delivery team. That means no heavy lifting on your part is needed. They’ll take it to your desired spot, assemble it for you and take away the packaging for recycling. The assembly service does exclude fitted furniture.

No-quibble returns

Returns should be easy, that’s why we have a ‘no quibble’ mindset.

If you decide on the day that it’s not for you then our delivery team can take it away for you there and then. But if you’d rather mull things over, you have 28 days to make up your mind. We do charge a pick-up fee of £29.95 here though, because we’ll need to send our delivery team back out.

And when it comes to designs upholstered in a made-to-order fabric or painted in a bespoke colour, there’s also a 30% returns/cancellation fee. We’d love to not have to charge a penny for this, but as they’re made just for you, we can’t always guarantee that we’ll be able to sell them again.
