Edinburgh Extending Dining Table

A closer look at Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a dining table that combines elegance with solidity. Every aspect of its design is as attractive as the next: from the framed, clean-edged tabletop; to the column-shaped legs; the clever simplicity of the extending mechanism; and the tactile finish of the grain-rich oak.

Materials

We use oak because of its beautiful grain, its durability and its sense of heritage (we’ve written more on oak’s qualities here). Part of its character are its knots and variations in tone, so each piece will have its own hand-writing.

Finish

The oak is brushed and stained to help bring out the appearance and feel of the grain a little bit more. It’s then protected with IsoGuard®, our timber treatment oil that makes oak easier to live with and doesn’t mask its texture. We’ve aptly called the resulting appearance Vintage Oak.

In the making

In all our tables, we use joinery techniques that help to counteract timber’s natural tendency to expand (slightly) and shrink (just a little) as it adjusts to the temperature and humidity of your home.

Shape

Combined with its intricate details, Edinburgh’s rectangular shape suits smart occasions and spaces, and adds grandeur to a simple setting. But pairing it with benches or an assortment of chairs is more casual. It also, naturally, asks for a larger space.

Design detail

Each of the columnar legs has a squared block at its top and bottom which adds a little weight. These also contrast with the fine rib detail, which is turned into the legs the traditional way, on a lathe.

How it extends

Edinburgh’s engineering allows the tabletop to extend without moving the legs beneath. Each side pulls away smoothly, resting on oak supports, revealing the leaves stored beneath that lift out and slot into place. We’ve found that only one person is needed.

Taking care of Edinburgh

We’ve put together this guide on taking care of your dining table, so that it stays looking as beautiful as the day you first brought it home.

We take our delivery service seriously. Neptune transport, Neptune people, Neptune service.

Our white glove service means you’ll have a two-man delivery team. That means no heavy lifting on your part is needed. They’ll take it to your desired spot, assemble it for you and take away the packaging for recycling.

No-quibble returns

We believe that returns should be easy, that’s why we approach them with a ‘no quibble’ mindset. If you decide on the day that it’s not for you then our delivery team can take it away for you there and then, free of charge.

But if you’d rather mull things over, you have 28 days to make up your mind. We do charge a pick-up fee of £29.95 here though, because we’ll need to send our delivery team back out to your address for collection.
