Sheldrake Extending Dining Table

Change size

A closer look at Sheldrake

Sheldrake is a refined and versatile dining table. Thanks to its slim proportions, it’s practical (not to mention pretty) no matter its size. It’s a good choice whether you need it to extend for just a couple of guests, or if you’re the go-to host for special occasions.

We use oak because of its beautiful grain, its durability and its sense of heritage (we’ve written more on oak’s qualities here). Part of its character are its knots and variations in tone, so each piece will have its own hand-writing.

Sheldrake is treated with IsoGuard®, our oil-based protector that makes oak easier to live with. It doesn’t mask its natural texture, and the Seasoned Oak finish adds a subtle grey tone.

In the making

In all our tables, we use joinery techniques that help to counteract timber’s natural tendency to expand (slightly) and shrink (just a little) as it adjusts to the temperature and humidity of your home.

Although this design’s rounded corners will soften a room like a circular table does, it behaves like a rectangular table. It asks for a larger space, but is the perfect choice for greater numbers of people and brings a sense of occasion to its setting.

Design detail

All of Sheldrake’s proportions have been slimmed down. Each section is also gracefully curved, from the rib detail in the tapered legs, to the slightly rounded edge of the tabletop, and the oval-shaped ends.

How it extends

Sheldrake’s ends simply slide out, carried on dovetail-jointed oak rails. As many of the leaves as you’d like can then be slotted into place (they’re stored in a useful bag so they don’t add bulk). It’s an easy thing to do, but you’ll need another pair of helping hands to manoeuvre the other side.

Taking care of Sheldrake

We’ve put together this guide on taking care of your dining table, so that it stays looking as beautiful as the day you first brought it home.

We take our delivery service seriously. Neptune transport, Neptune people, Neptune service.

Our white glove service means you’ll have a two-man delivery team. That means no heavy lifting on your part is needed. They’ll take it to your desired spot, assemble it for you and take away the packaging for recycling.

No-quibble returns

We believe that returns should be easy, that’s why we approach them with a ‘no quibble’ mindset. If you decide on the day that it’s not for you then our delivery team can take it away for you there and then, free of charge.

But if you’d rather mull things over, you have 28 days to make up your mind. We do charge a pick-up fee of £29.95 here though, because we’ll need to send our delivery team back out to your address for collection.
