Suffolk Extending Dining Table

A closer look at Suffolk

Quiet elegance and pared-back forms carry through the entire Suffolk collection, including this dining table. It’s a subtly Shaker-inspired piece – simple enough to suit contemporary spaces and farmhouse kitchens alike.

Where the timber is painted, we’ve used tulipwood – a high-quality hardwood that has very few knots in its grain, lending it to a high-quality finish. The exposed timber tabletop though, is natural oak, with all of the knots and colour variations that are part of its charm (we’ve written more about oak’s qualities here).

The finish: paint

We take great care in achieving our painted finish and treat every design differently, giving it exactly what it needs to make it robust. We vary the number of base and top coats according to how many that particular shade requires. And we use a mixture of spray-painted and hand-painted techniques so the finish is as perfect as can be.

The finish: IsoGuard®

IsoGuard® is the treatment oil we developed to make oak surfaces easier to live with. The Seasoned Oak finish on Suffolk’s tabletop adds a subtle grey undertone – like the beautiful silvered shades of weathered timber – without masking its texture.

In the making

In all our tables, we use joinery techniques that help to counteract timber’s natural tendency to expand (slightly) and shrink (just a little) as it adjusts to the temperature and humidity of your home.

The straight lines of a rectangular table can’t help but feel more formal than those of round tables, and will bring order to the room. But the setting can be relaxed with a mix of chair styles.

Design detail

The detail in Suffolk’s legs was taken from the ball-back dining chair, which in turn was inspired by an antique piece. In contrast, the tabletop is straight-lined. Together, they make for a happy balance between old and new.

How it extends

Each side of Suffolk’s tabletop simply slides away from the centre, revealing the leaves stored beneath, which are then lifted out and slotted into place. Its mechanism ensures that both sides pull out squarely and at the same rate. It’s an easy thing to do, but you’ll need another pair of helping hands to manoeuvre the other side.

We take our delivery service seriously. Neptune transport, Neptune people, Neptune service.

Our white glove service means you’ll have a two-man delivery team. That means no heavy lifting on your part is needed. They’ll take it to your desired spot, assemble it for you and take away the packaging for recycling.

No-quibble returns

We believe that returns should be easy, that’s why we approach them with a ‘no quibble’ mindset. If you decide on the day that it’s not for you then our delivery team can take it away for you there and then, free of charge.

But if you’d rather mull things over, you have 28 days to make up your mind. We do charge a pick-up fee of £29.95 here though, because we’ll need to send our delivery team back out to your address for collection.
