Montague High Back Bar Stool

Change colour

A closer look at Montague

The Lloyd Loom style of our Montague bar stool offers a soft, practical seating solution for your kitchen island or bar. The silver birch weave and slim legs harmonise with any painted or oak furniture and the design is comfortable, practical and durable.

Materials

Lloyd Loom’s been around since the early 20th century, and is made by wrapping paper around a steel wire. It won’t bend out of shape or creak when you sit down, and is completely smooth, so it won’t snag on clothes. In this chair, it’s joined by pine legs – a strong softwood with a straight grain that’s ideal for painting.

Finish

Not every piece of furniture and every colour of paint needs the same process – a ‘one finish suits all’ approach won’t ever give you the best result possible. That’s why we vary the number of coats and use both hand-painted and spray-painted techniques depending on what that shade needs.

Comfort and proportions

This is a firm bar stool, though Lloyd Loom has a little more give in it than timber if comfort is on your priority list. It also has a curved seat, so it’ll fit around your legs rather than you feeling as if you’re perched on top. And the backrest is high enough to be supportive, but won’t stand out too far above your countertop.

Design detail

Montague’s footrest is made from stainless steel so it’ll stand up to scuffs. And, wherever there’s a join in the Lloyd Loom (such as where the legs meet the seat and around the backrest), we’ve finished it with a neat plait. It’s a traditional detail, but one that’s balanced by the bar stool’s pared-back shape.

Just So you know

The colours you see here are as close to the real thing as we can get them, but it’s always a good idea to try a sample first if you’re looking to get the colour spot on.

Taking care of Montague

Lloyd Loom really won’t ask a lot of you, just a regular dust down with a soft bristle brush to remove any crumbs is all it needs. For anything more stubborn, you can also use a soft, damp sponge – Lloyd Loom is perfectly happy getting a little wet, just avoid any harsh or abrasive cleaners.

When it comes to the painted legs, things are just as simple. But because you’ll find this material in a lot of our pieces, we’ve put together a slightly more in-depth guide.
