Wardley Painted Bar Stool

Change colour

A closer look at Wardley

Wardley’s a classic Windsor chair made into a contemporary bar stool. It’s a spindle-back style that’s been around since the 18th-century, that we’ve updated with a cleaner form and lower back height, which means, despite its sense of heritage, it’s a good choice if you want a timber bar stool for a contemporary space.

Materials

When it comes to painted timber, we use tulipwood – a strong and resilient hardwood. Its fine, almost knot-free grain makes it perfectly suited to a painted finish, so you get the best of both worlds – strength and smoothness.

Finish

Not every piece of furniture and every colour of paint needs the same process – a ‘one finish suits all’ approach won’t ever give you the best result possible. That’s why we vary the number of coats and use both hand-painted and spray-painted techniques depending on what that shade needs.

Comfort and proportions

It may be made from wood, but Wardley doesn’t compromise on comfort. The back curves to meet your own, and there’s a barely detectable (until you sit in it), leg-hugging saddle shape to the seat.

Design detail

To give it a crafted feel, we’ve added the swallowtail detail usually found on Shaker boxes to the back of the Wardley stool. It also has curved spindles to give it a lighter, softer look.

Just so you know

The colours you see here are as close to the real thing as we can get them, but it’s always a good idea to try a sample first if you’re looking to get the colour spot on.

Natural timber will always want to move. It’s going to expand and shrink as the temperature and humidity in your home changes, but there are specialist joinery techniques that can help to counteract the movement. And that’s exactly what we do, so although you might see a little movement in the timber over the seasons, it won’t change drastically.
