Chichester Coffee Table

A closer look at Chichester

Our Chichester coffee table is classic and timeless; its enduring style, to us, embodies the best of English design. It’s made using tried-and-tested, proper joinery techniques, from a combination of natural, tactile oak and perfectly-painted tulipwood, with pared-back detailing. And its rectangular size is easy to incorporate into most seating arrangements.

Materials

Tulipwood is a strong and durable hardwood that has a fine, almost knot-free grain, creating a smooth surface for painting. Oak, on the other hand, is full of character, knots and colour variations – qualities that are all part of its charm (read more on oak here).

The finish: paint

We take great care over our painted finishes and give every design exactly what it needs to make it robust. The number of base and top coats will vary according to how many that shade requires. And we use a mixture of spray-painted and hand-painted techniques so the finish is as perfect as can be.

The finish: IsoGuard®

Chichester’s tabletop is protected with IsoGuard®, which makes the oak easier to live with but doesn’t mask its texture. It’s linseed-based, an oil which does initially darken the timber, but the clever pigments in our Natural finish replenish the original, soft-toned colour.

Design detail

Quite a few of our coffee tables, including Chichester, have a lower shelf. It’s a useful addition, whether you want to keep the top surface clear or use it as a place for bigger objects like blankets. Here, it’s simply decorated with V-grooves, so it’s attractive when left bare too.

Just so you know

The colours in our paint palette shown here are a close representation of their true shades, but to see the real thing, we suggest trying our sample paint pots.

This piece is made from natural timber, which will expand (slightly) and shrink (just a little) as it responds to the humidity and temperature in your room. We’ve used joinery techniques that’ll help to counteract this, but small changes in your piece are completely natural and to be expected. Just know that, in the very unlikely event that there’s a significant change to the structure, we’ll be here to help.

Taking care of Chichester

We’ve put together this guide on taking care of your coffee table, so that it stays looking as beautiful as the day you first brought it home.

We take our delivery service seriously. Neptune transport, Neptune people, Neptune service.

Our white glove service means you’ll have a two-man delivery team. That means no heavy lifting on your part is needed. They’ll take it to your desired spot, assemble it for you and take away the packaging for recycling.

No-quibble returns

We believe that returns should be easy, that’s why we approach them with a ‘no quibble’ mindset. If you decide on the day that it’s not for you then our delivery team can take it away for you there and then, free of charge.

But if you’d rather mull things over, you have 28 days to make up your mind. We do charge a pick-up fee of £29.95 here though, because we’ll need to send our delivery team back out to your address for collection.
