A closer look at William

William is full of traditional details – like buttons, scrolled arms and turned oak legs – that are timeless in their simplicity. Underneath the well-proportioned seat is a filling that, despite its petite size, makes this chair surprisingly comfy.

Structure and a little bounce come from the serpentine springs in the base and elastic webbing in the back. The backrest is padded with a medium density foam, whereas in the seat it’s much softer, but we’ve been sure to use enough so that you’ll never feel the frame beneath.

Comfort & proportions

For such a small chair, the seat is quite deep so you can slouch a little or sit upright. And the slightly firmer backrest supports the upper back and shoulders.

Shape & silhouette

This chair’s uncomplicated looks extend to the bigger details too. While it has scrolled arms, the back is squared-off and the front edge left plain. So, not only is its size versatile, but its style is too.

Design detail

As a subtle finishing touch, just two buttons decorate William’s backrest and piping defines its architecture. The back legs continue the arc of the frame, while the intricate front legs are traditionally turned.

Fabric notes

The textiles in our fabric library range from pure linen to rich velvet and wool, and each one has its own character. Tone and texture can vary slightly from thread to thread, and expect to see the occasional slub in our linens and pile movement in our velvets. We’ve written an article about the personality behind each of our fabrics so that you can figure out which one best suits your home.

If you’re ordering William in one of our checked wools, we’ll make sure that the buttons sit at the point where two lines meet.

Sometimes colour between batches can vary ever-so-slightly. To be on the safe side, we’d advise buying pieces that are being used in the same room in one go.

Taking care of William

We’ve put together this guide on taking care of your upholstered pieces so that they stay looking as beautiful as the day you first brought them home.

We take our delivery service seriously. Neptune transport, Neptune people, Neptune service.

Our white glove service means you’ll have a two-man delivery team. That means no heavy lifting on your part is needed. They’ll take it to your desired spot, assemble it for you and take away the packaging for recycling.

No-quibble returns

We believe that returns should be easy, that’s why we approach them with a ‘no quibble’ mindset. If you decide on the day that it’s not for you then our delivery team can take it away for you there and then, free of charge.

But if you’d rather mull things over, you have 28 days to make up your mind. We do charge a pick-up fee of £29.95 here though, because we’ll need to send our delivery team back out to your address for collection.

New, just opened, and coming very soon...

Not too long ago, a guest at one of our stores described it as being 'extraordinary'. It's the word that we feel best describes them – the look, the feel, the experience. Some are in city-centre locations, some are a little drive out, but they're all designed to feel like a real home, rather than a store.
