A closer look at Olivia

The Olivia sofa feels very classic, very English and very comfortable. It’s generously proportioned and has even more generously stuffed cushions. Olivia also combines traditional details like pleated arms and turned legs with rounded edges at every point. It’s a sofa for people who like traditional elegance.

The frame: in the making

We make our frames using expert joinery techniques that’ll stand up to a lifetime of use. The point where the back legs meet the frame needs to be especially strong – it’ll be taking most of the weight – which is why we use finger joints that securely lock together each piece of timber.

Fixed back sofas are brilliant if you don’t want to be plumping cushions often, but they can feel too firm. We’ve stuffed Olivia’s with foam and fibre though, so it’s still got plenty of springiness. The seat cushions are a good balance of firm and soft too, with a core of dense foam surrounded by lots of feather and fibre, held in channels – like a duvet, this stops them from moving around too much.

Comfort & proportions

Olivia’s a good sofa if you’re on the taller side because the mounded cushion and depth of the seat offer knee support, and it has a tall back too. And if you’re not, it’s still one to consider if you like to put your feet up on the sofa.

Shape & silhouette

Olivia is plump yet tailored, with a neat back and a square-shaped front frame. The arms are petite, low down and set back from the front edge, which makes the most of the internal seat space.

Design detail

The seat cushions fit neatly underneath the hidden padding in the backrest. If you take them off to plump, a little advice when slipping them back in is to line up the front of the cushion with the frame and lean against it, pushing it under without losing any puffiness.

The textiles in our fabric library range from pure linen to rich velvet and wool, and each one has its own character. Tone and texture can vary slightly from thread to thread, and expect to see the occasional slub in our linens and pile movement in our velvets. We’ve written an article about the personality behind each of our fabrics so that you can figure out which one best suits your home.

And, rest assured, all the feathers and down in our cushion fillings come from ethical, cruelty-free sources.

Sometimes colour between batches can vary ever-so-slightly. To be on the safe side, we’d advise buying pieces that are being used in the same room in one go.

You might notice ‘marks’ on the velvet when it comes out of its packaging or after you’ve lent on it. They happen when you flatten the fibres and are a completely normal characteristic of velvet – they’re all part of the way it ages. But if you’d prefer, you can use a velvet brush to push the pile back into place.

Taking care of Olivia

We’ve put together this guide on taking care of your upholstered pieces so that they stay looking as beautiful as the day you first brought them home.

We take our delivery service seriously. Neptune transport, Neptune people, Neptune service.

Our white glove service means you’ll have a two-man delivery team. That means no heavy lifting on your part is needed. They’ll take it to your desired spot, assemble it for you and take away the packaging for recycling. The assembly service doesn't include fitted furniture.

For homes and customers outside of the UK and Ireland, our international team are here to help arrange shipping and delivery. Call us on +44 (0)1793 427 427 or e-mail  and together we’ll sort out the best method for you.

No-quibble returns

Returns should be easy, that’s why we have a ‘no quibble’ mindset.

If you decide on the day that it’s not for you then our delivery team can take it away for you there and then. But if you’d rather mull things over, you have 28 days to make up your mind. We do charge a pick-up fee of £29.95 here though, because we’ll need to send our delivery team back out.

And when it comes to designs upholstered in a made-to-order fabric or painted in a bespoke colour, there’s also a 30% returns/cancellation fee. We’d love to not have to charge a penny for this, but as they’re made just for you, we can’t always guarantee that we’ll be able to sell them again.

If you’ve bought something from us outside the UK or Ireland, just get in touch with the store you bought it from – or with our international team if you bought it through them – and they’ll let you know how you can return or exchange it.

And talk to our international team on +44 (0)1793 427 427 or at
