Bluestone is a natural, sturdy stone that we’ve chosen for its beautiful blue-grey colouring that’s easy to use in lots of settings (as it’s without the hardness that pure grey can sometimes have) and the naturally-occurring dappled patina that brings texture and interest. Bluestone is heavy though, so we’ve wrapped sheets of it around a honeycomb structure to make it much more practical than a solid tabletop would be.
Oak is, without a doubt, our favourite timber. Why? For starters, there’s its beautiful grain – just the right amount of characterful but without too many knots. There’s also its colour: an understated and easy to use pale honeyed brown. And not forgetting its sense of heritage and its very timeless, rather than trendy, appeal.
The bluestone top has a smooth, honed finish rather than a polished one, which just feels a touch more contemporary, and it’s sealed to protect it. The oak is finished with our exterior IsoGuard® oil, which is a natural linseed-based formula that protects it from staining, silvering and drying without masking its look and feel. Both will need reapplying yearly to work at their best, so you’ll find everything you need in our aftercare section and all the details on doing so in our care guides.
A styling tip or two
Because its base is made from oak (traditionally a timber for interiors use), you can quite easily use Runswick as an indoor-outdoor piece, whether that’s on a covered terrace, a garden room, or as a piece that lives outside in summer and inside in winter. In terms of chairs, we think it works particularly well with Harrington, Toulston and Stanway.
