A closer look at Marylebone

This inkwash drawing by artist Betty Sims-Hilditch is one of her Original Ink series, which shows London scenes through the seasons. Here, it’s a corner of Melcombe Place, near Marylebone Station. Its soft lines make any room feel more elegant.

Meet the artist

Betty Sims-Hilditch is a London-based artist who creates line drawings and black-and-white photographs. She uses a mix of ink, charcoal, watercolour and pencil to give depth and character to her illustrations, while her landscape photographs are all about soulful use of light.

In the frame

A wide, black frame with bevelled edges suits these nostalgic drawings. Together with the white card mount, it also matches their monochrome colours.

Where we see it

These prints look good in a group, so the various scenes tell a bit of a story. This works well on a staircase, where the simple frames draw the eye upwards. And in rooms that feel a little dark, the white areas in the picture will brighten them up.
