A closer look at Finian

Like Hugo, Finian is one of our heaviest linens. This means it really shows off linen’s organic texture. Finian’s just slightly more characterful than Hugo, with more variations in its weave and colour, so it makes a bit more of a statement.

The textile

100% linen. Finian has a dense weave, with thick threads that give it a chunky texture, and lots of natural slubs. Linen is an all-year-round textile – breathable and cool to the touch in summer, but insulating in winter. And it’ll improve with age, becoming softer and suppler.

A note on slubs

Finian’s textured feel comes from the slubs in the natural flax fibres. These are raised parts created when the fibres are joined together. They’re not flaws, just part of the fabric’s character.

How it feels

Not quite as soft and smooth as Hugo, Finian has more of a raw linen feel. It’s good is you have a space with a laidback, rustic style, or for when you want to introduce a contrast in texture to refined surfaces.

The colour

Like all our plain linens, Finian’s yarn dyed. This means the threads are dyed before they’re woven, for a greater depth of colour. It comes in two shades – this one’s Mustard. It’s bolder than Sage, but still earthy, so you can use it as a bright or play it down with neutrals.

Where we see it

Finian gives a lovely lived-in feel to a sofa or armchair, which you can then build pattern on top of using finer-textured fabrics. You could also use it on curtains if you want them to have a relaxed, slightly crumpled look.

Just so you know

There can be some colour variation between different batches of our fabric – we try to make them as small as possible, but it’s something to be expected with natural fibres. If you’re using this fabric more than once in the same room, we recommend ordering as many metres as you need in one go - that way, we can make sure it’s all from the same batch.
