A closer look at Mabel

Mabel’s different to a lot of our other printed linens because we make its pattern by drawing out the dye in the fabric, creating a two-tone effect; in fact, it’s more of a ‘light etched linen’ than a printed one. It means the geometric pattern is subtle – perfect for dipping your toes in.

The textile

100% linen. Mabel’s made of fine yarns, tightly woven together, so it’s both soft and strong. It’ll feel cool in summer and warm in winter, so you can use it all year round.

A note on slubs

Joining natural fibres together creates raised parts in the thread, known as slubs. They’re not flaws, just part of the fabric’s character.

The look and feel

Mabel’s smooth-textured with a slight, natural sheen. It’s got the gently crumpled look that comes with pure linen. There’s also some weight to it, but it’s made of fine yarns so it’s softer and lighter than some of our more textured linens, like Finian.

Where we see it

This patterned linen is the same colour and texture as our plain Harry Flax Blue textile. So, where you’ve used Harry on bigger pieces, use Mabel to carry the colour through elsewhere on cushions and blinds, adding subtle pattern for more interest.

Just so you know

There can be some colour variation between different batches of our fabric – we try to make them as small as possible, but it’s something to be expected with natural fibres. If you’re using this fabric more than once in the same room, we recommend ordering as many metres as you need in one go - that way, we can make sure it’s all from the same batch.
