A closer look at Orla

Inspired by the thistle motif on our Olney crockery, Orla’s a mid-scale, digitally-printed pattern with the slightly uneven look and feel of a hand-printed fabric. Made from a mix of linen and cotton, each colourway sits on a subtle, unbleached background.

The material & colour

Linen and cotton are both soft, strong and breathable natural fabrics. Leaving them unbleached means that Orla’s base is the naturally pale grey-beige colour of the fibres, and is less strongly contrasted against the pattern colour, Moss – a muted green, almost bordering on khaki or grey.

The look & feel

Orla has quite an even, uniform weave and a smooth surface, with some slubs (raised threads that are a natural part of linen) but less texture than some of the pure linens in our collections. It also drapes beautifully, so works well for curtains and blinds, and will make soft, supple cushions.

Using Orla in your home

Because Orla’s pattern sits somewhere between Thea’s and Emma’s in terms of scale, the three mix well together if you’d like to layer pattern in your room. It’s suitable for using on upholstery as well as cushions and window treatments.

Just so you know

There can be some colour variation between different batches of our fabric – we try to make them as small as possible, but it’s something to be expected with natural fibres. If you’re using this fabric more than once in the same room, we recommend ordering as many metres as you need in one go - that way, we can make sure it’s all from the same batch.
