With its wide, round middle and narrower top and base, Herstal takes its cue from classic ancient Greek pottery. We’ve made the lamp from clay that’s set into moulds, then it’s left to dry naturally before being kiln-fired and hand-brushed with washed matte charcoal for a distressed look. Our other ceramic lamps have a gloss-glazed finish, but we’ve chosen matt for Herstal to reflect its aged, antique feel.
Design & engineering
The materials
Resilient against chipping with its strong ceramic base, it’s also resistant to temperature changes so it won’t overheat. The neck and bulb base is made from sturdy iron with a brushed antique brass finish to complement the classic style of the lamp body.
Lampshade pairings
Most of our shades will work well with the small Herstal lamp, but we recommend you match the base with the Henry 15-inch, Lucile 12-inch and Oliver 12-inch shades. We’ve chosen these because the diameters, heights and shapes suit the Herstal base, and their Warm White fabric will diffuse a soft light spill.
Design detail
We’ve covered the bottom of the base with black felt to ensure that your table is protected if you slide it along the surface. It also comes with a generous 120cm of black braided flex with an inline switch that sits along its length.

Herstal’s individual craftsmanship and hand-applied finish means that the look of each lamp may vary – its uniqueness is to be expected and celebrated.
You should purchase an E27 bulb for this lamp separately. We recommend a warm white LED mini globe or golf ball bulb for a soft glow, lower environmental impact and minimal heat output. The maximum strength of the bulb should be 8W LED.
As standard, this lamp comes with a black UK three-pin plug and a Europlug adapter. It has an energy rating of A++ to E and an IP20 rating.
