Why tulipwood?
Tulipwood is always the timber we turn to when we know we’re going to use a painted finish. That’s because, as well as being strong and stable, it also has a very fine, very even grain. Because there’s little in the way of knots and swirls, it’s easy to create a flat, smooth and practically perfect finish using eggshell paint which, later down the line, you can easily repaint.
About the paint finish
You can choose from any of our colours for Highgate, each applied in our water-based eggshell using a mix of spray and hand-painting techniques so the finish is perfect as can be. By using eggshell, you can not only repaint easily, but your lamp will have a soft, low-sheen finish that’s tactile and has an excellent depth of colour.
Highgate’s perfect pairing
You can partner Highgate with any of our lampshades (or, for that matter, any lampshade that has an E27 bulb fitting) but we know it’s not always easy to do that online. So, we’ve chosen the two that we think go with this tall and slim shape best – Henry and Oliver – as well as the best sizes to suit. Simply choose your preferred shade from the drop down, or select ‘without a shade’ if you’d rather pick your own.
Choosing a lightbulb
We always advocate using LED bulbs as they have a far lower environmental impact and are cool to the touch so they won’t scorch shades (or fingers!), as opposed to halogen or tungsten bulbs which generate a lot of heat. We also recommend that the maximum strength of your bulb should be no more than 8W LED for our lighting collection.

We’ll happily take back most pieces within 28 days of delivery.- For courier delivered items bought online, returns are free of charge.
