This painted timber and oak Suffolk console table features details inspired by country-style furniture (like the balls in the legs), but it’s simple enough to suit both more contemporary and traditional spaces. It’s one of our wider consoles, which means it works well as a desk too. And it also has two drawers that fit a surprising amount inside.

A closer look at Suffolk

Design detail

The shape of Suffolk’s legs was taken from our ball-back dining chair, which in turn was inspired by an antique piece. The drawers are finished in our Suffolk knobs in either chrome or oak – you can choose whichever suits your room best.

The materials

Where the timber’s painted, we’ve used tulipwood – a hardwood with a fine grain that gives a smooth finish. We use a mixture of spray-painted and hand-painted techniques, so the finish is as perfect and robust as can be. The exposed timber top’s oak, with all of the knots and colour variations that are part of its charm (we’ve written more about oak’s qualities here).

About IsoGuard®

Suffolk’s oak top’s protected with our IsoGuard® timber treatment oil, which guards against dirt and scuffs without masking the texture. The Seasoned Oak finish adds a subtle grey undertone – like the silvery shade of weathered timber.

Where we see it

Suffolk’s unfussy shape suits less formal rooms, but you can make it feel more elegant by matching the paint colour to walls and fabrics. It’s also great in a painted kitchen, finished to match the cabinets.
