Aldwych 2 Drawer Chest, Snow

Change colour

A closer look at Aldwych

Aldwych is a contemporary chest of drawers with slim proportions and an angular shape. It’s a little smaller than some other storage pieces, making it suited to your bedside as much as to the corner of your living space or as a hallway console table.

Materials

When it comes to painted pieces like Aldwych, we use tulipwood. Unlike a timber such as oak, it’s not the prettiest to look at, but its fine, almost knot-free grain creates a smooth finish for paint, so its dull appearance is in fact a virtue. Like oak though, it’s a resilient and strong hardwood.

Finish

We take great care over our painted finishes and give every design exactly what it needs to make it robust. The number of base and top coats will vary according to how many that shade requires. And we use a mixture of spray-painted and hand-painted techniques so the finish is as perfect as can be.

Storage

There are actually just two drawers in this piece, although they look like three. The bottom one has been cleverly disguised to maintain the symmetry created by three, equally sized drawers, but is in fact doubly deep for storing larger objects. It makes Aldwych all the more useful.

Design detail

The tray-like top doesn’t lift off, but is as practical for keeping things in place as it is decorative. Its slim legs balance the visual weight of the drawers, and underneath are discreet little feet, which help to keep the paint finish from scuffing as much as they protect hard flooring.

Just so you know

The colours in our paint palette shown here are a close representation of their true shades, but to see the real thing, we suggest trying our sample paint pots.

The hardware on Aldwych changes to suit the colour it’s painted in; either the chrome Limehouse ball handle (when in Snow or any of our other shades) or the Henley Black Bronze knob (to pair with Warm Black).

This piece is made from natural timber, which will expand (slightly) and shrink (just a little) as it responds to the humidity and temperature in your room. We’ve used joinery techniques that’ll help to counteract this, but small changes in your piece are completely natural and to be expected. Just know that, in the very unlikely event that there’s a significant change to the structure, we’ll be here to help.

Taking care

We’ve put together this guide on taking care of your furniture so that it stays looking as beautiful as the day you first brought it home.
