Chloe is transformed from flax to fabric in Belgium – one of a few countries which has an ideal climate for cultivating the world’s finest linen. As such, the material carries the Belgian Linen label, a quality trademark which guarantees it’s woven in Belgium with at least 85% natural flax fibres (or, in Chloe’s case, 100%). And, it also has the Masters of Linen label, a seal of excellence which certifies that it's been made in Europe and meets high quality standards. You can find more information on Chloe's production story here.
Chloe’s woven base cloth uses dyes that are approved by REACH, an organisation which regulates the use of harmful chemicals to minimise environmental impact. The fabric is then stonewashed, which takes some of the dye out of the fabric to give it that much-loved characterful look. The material comes in a few, subtle shades – this one’s Denim, a mid blue with a hint of grey that makes it easy to use without feeling like too much colour.
Doing the right thingNot only is this biodegradable fabric made in a carbon neutral weaving mill, our supplier also ensures that all parts of the flax plant are used during production. The shives (fragments that break off inside the plant stems during flax extraction) are used for animal bedding or chipboard, while the long and highest-quality short fibres are used for textiles like our Chloe linen. The fabric also meets OEKO-TEX standard 100, a label exclusively applied to textiles that have been tested and found free of harmful substances.
Free for all orders over £50 (or €100 in Ireland).
If your order is available now, we’ll deliver it between 3-5 days of your order being placed.
If your order is not available straight away, an estimated date will be indicated above and at checkout. We’ll then get in touch nearer the estimated date to arrange a specific time.
We believe that returns should be easy, which is why we approach them with a ‘no quibble’ mindset. And, you’ll also have 28 days to do so – just in case you need time to mull things over.
Care guideThe fabric is suitable for washing at 40 degrees, then it can be steam ironed on a high heat. Please note that the fabric should not be tumble dried or bleached, and after a couple of washes the colour may fade slightly. Pure 100% linen crumples more easily than when it’s blended with other yarns, so expect Chloe to take on a relaxed, unironed feel over time.
Need to know
There can be some colour variation between different batches of our fabric – we try to make this as minimal as possible, but it’s something to be expected with natural fibres. If you’re using this fabric more than once in the same room, we recommend ordering as many metres as you need in one go – that way, we can aim to make sure it’s all from the same batch.
Slubs are the slightly raised or thicker parts of the thread that you often see on linen fabrics – they’re a completely normal feature of this weave. They give the finished textile personality, texture and interest and show that it’s made from natural fibres.
A note on safety: if you’d like to use this fabric to upholster a piece of furniture yourself, then you should purchase an interliner (which you can find at upholstery and fabric shops) to go with it. This is also known as a barrier cloth which is used underneath the main fabric to ensure that the upholstered furnishing meets fire regulations. Of course, if you order this or any of our fabrics on Neptune pre-upholstered pieces, we’ll use the relevant interliner.
