Sewing Machinist

Neptune HQ, Swindon - Permanent, full-time

The role

Design consideration is at the very heart of everything we create at Neptune. Be it the materials we use or simply about always doing the right thing. Each of our UK team brings a different talent to the table, and together we make beautiful furniture, kitchens, upholstery and all the little things that help to give a home soul.

For us, upholstery isn't just about the beautiful choice of textile on the outside (although just so you know we house over 40 textiles in our fabric library, from pure linen to rich velvet and from patterned to plain). It's also about the bones of the furniture, so we've designed upholstery with frames that will endure. An expert upholsterer will know, when the fabric begins to tire, and eventually, when the fillings need a bit of a pick-me-up, a careful and loving repair and re-upholster will bring that favourite piece of furniture back to its original beauty.

We are now seeking a skilled and experienced Sewing Machinist to join our small Wiltshire based team. You will work closely with our Upholsterer to produce and repair Neptune's upholstered products ensuring that quality and craftmanship are achieved.
In this brand new role you will:

  • Consider and choose on appropriate sewing techniques before work commences
  • Work closely with the Upholsterer to determine each job's requirements
  • Perform alterations and repairs to upholstery products
  • Cut upholstery fabric, sewing and gluing according to the requirements of each product
  • Affixing buttons, zippers, clasps, and similar fittings
  • Operate a walking foot sewing machine
  • Detect and repair basic faults with the sewing machine as they occur

You will bring demonstrable experience as a sewing machine operator using quality craftmanship skills and previous experience using a walking foot sewing machine and ideally fabric-cutting experience too. You'll have the ability to create, read and follow patterns and bring a positive approach to problem-solving. It also goes without saying you'll have an impeccable eye for detail and set high working standards for yourself and others you work with.

If you have a passion for working with the utmost care and detail, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch with your CV and salary details.
