Materials
Lloyd Loom’s been around since the early 20th century, and is made by wrapping paper around a steel wire. It won’t bend out of shape or creak when you sit down, and is completely smooth, so it won’t snag on clothes. In this chair, it’s joined by pine legs – a strong softwood with a straight grain that’s ideal for painting.
Finish
Not every piece of furniture and every colour of paint needs the same process – a ‘one finish suits all’ approach won’t ever give you the best result possible. That’s why we vary the number of coats and use both hand-painted and spray-painted techniques depending on what that shade needs.
Comfort and proportions
This is a firm bar stool, though Lloyd Loom has a little more give in it than timber if comfort is on your priority list. It also has a curved seat, so it’ll fit around your legs rather than you feeling as if you’re perched on top. And the backrest is high enough to be supportive, but won’t stand out too far above your countertop.
Design detail
Montague’s footrest is made from stainless steel so it’ll stand up to scuffs. And, wherever there’s a join in the Lloyd Loom (such as where the legs meet the seat and around the backrest), we’ve finished it with a neat plait. It’s a traditional detail, but one that’s balanced by the bar stool’s pared-back shape.
