Thea is a fine fabric made from a mix of linen and cotton. Its trellis-like pattern actually consists of small daubs and triangles which creates interest when viewed up close. This colourway, Sage is a soft green which, together with the bleached white background, gives Thea a fresh and spring-like feel. As it’s quite an open pattern, it gently diffuses the light without blocking it.
All our lampshades are suitable for using with either a bayonet bulb or, by removing the detachable ring, an ED27 bulb (which is what all our lamps use). The part that attaches the shade to the base is fixed in place though, so Henry isn’t suitable for using when the bulb points down (like a pendant). It’s lined inside with off-white fabric which, together with the Thea textile on the outside, helps with diffusing but not obscuring the light.
How to choose the right shade
Matching a shade to a base can be quite tricky, which is why you’ll see that all our lamps have suggested size and shape pairings. If you’re not working off that though, a good rule of thumb for table lamps is for the height of the shade to be about three quarters of that of the lamp and for the shade’s width to be equal to the height of the lamp. Don’t get too hung up on that though – go with what you think looks best, and know that our shades are returnable if still in their wrappings.
Choosing the right bulb for this lampshade
We always advocate using LED bulbs with our lampshades and light fittings as they have a far lower environmental impact and are cool to the touch so they won’t scorch shades (or fingers!), as opposed to halogen or tungsten bulbs which generate a lot of heat. We also recommend that the maximum strength of your bulb should be no more than 8W LED for our lighting collection.
