The materials and finishes
Just like the crockery collection they’re based on, our Olney lamps are made from stoneware – a hardwearing type of clay – which, after it’s hand-stamped, is finished with a subtly glossy glaze. We’ve also used a chrome-coloured neck and bulb socket, and a silver braided silk flex to coordinate with the dark grey-brown pattern and creamy white background.
In the making
Block printing is a centuries-old technique of pattern making. It’s normally associated with cloth, particularly from India, and in wallpaper-making, but it has also traditionally been used on hard surfaces like pottery. These days, transfer printing is more commonly used for ceramics, being quicker and less variable, but we love the character and non-uniformity of stamping with carved wooden blocks.
The perfect pairing
You can pair Olney with any of our lampshades, but we know it’s not always easy to do that online. So, we’ve chosen the one we think matches the base’s relatively wide, simple shape best: Henry, our classic empire shade. If you’d rather order the base on its own though, simply select the ‘without a shade’ option above.
A styling tip or two
There are two sizes of Olney lamp to choose from: a small one which, at just over 25cm tall, is perfect for sitting next to a bed or on a petite side table; and a large one, which is a bit more of a statement piece and would be better suited to a console or chest of drawers.
When it comes to smaller items, we don't hang around.
From our own, white-glove service for delivering larger pieces in the UK and Ireland, to our courier and international partners, rest assured that we’ve done everything we can to make sure your order gets to you on time and in one, perfect piece.
Delivery’s also entirely free if you’re in the UK and spend over £50 (or €100 in Ireland).
We believe that returns should be easy, which is why we approach them with a ‘no quibble’ mindset. And, you’ll also have 28 days to do so – just in case you need time to mull things over.
