The materialsLong Island uses oak for the removeable, tapered legs, and plywood and tulipwood for the frame. Like oak, tulipwood is incredibly strong and this, coupled with expert joinery techniques, ensures it will stand the test of time. The plywood is used in areas where a more flexible and lighter weight material is needed to create the shape of the sofa, such as on the curved arms of the frame.
The materials: foam and feathersThe seat cushions have a soft foam core encased in channelled feather and fibre – this channelling helps to distribute the filling evenly so that the cushions remain perfectly plump. And the backrests only contain feathers so you can experience that sink-into feeling. We’ve also used serpentine springs in the base for support and comfort, as well as elastic webbing in the back to ensure the sofa holds its shape over time.
Design detailThe shape of this sofa hints towards relaxation with its fluid, rolling arc to the side profile and gentle scrolling arms for comfort and support. The feather-filled, over-sized back cushions are also pillow-like, so they create an inviting look and feel for you to sink into. Whether you want to remove the sofa covers for cleaning or replacing, we’ve made this as easy as possible by adding a zip in the middle of the backrest as well as concealed Velcro points.
Doing the right thingOur furniture uses wood from the Appalachian Mountains, a region where for every tree harvested or decaying, 2.4 naturally grow back in its place which supports forest regeneration. In fact, this has increased the Appalachian forest by more than 300,000 acres in the last 25 years. The wood then goes to our production house, where a dedicated team is leading us towards becoming the most sustainable home and lifestyle brand by 2030. Not only is the production house powered by highly energy-efficient heat pumps, it also reuses and recycles as many by-products as possible to reduce waste and thereby, do what we can to take some of the pressure off our planet.
