The frame: in the making
We make our frames using expert joinery techniques that’ll stand up to a lifetime of use. The point where the back legs meet the frame needs to be especially strong – it’ll be taking most of the weight – which is why we use finger joints that securely lock together each piece of timber.

Support and a little bounce come from the serpentine springs in the base and elastic webbing in the back. The seat cushion has a core of soft foam, which is a little firmer in the back for structure, and both are surrounded with feather, down and fibre. It’s a mix that gives Long Island its sink-into softness.
Comfort and proportions
The depth and width of Long Island is made for curling up in, and it leans back just enough for slouching. You’ll immediately sink into its cushions, but their construction means you’ll never feel the frame underneath.
Shape and silhouette
Long Island’s shape continues the feeling of relaxation, with a fluid arc to its side profile and gentle scrolling on its arms. It also has a rolled, pillow-like back cushion rather than a boxed one for an inviting look that gently cushions your shoulders.
The covers are precision-made to the frame, but with a degree of looseness so that you can take them on and off. Together with the kick pleats – stitched in place at each corner – it means that no matter how much you use Long Island, the covers will never fall out of place.

Taking care of Long Island
Looking after Neptune designs is easy – they won’t ask you for a lot. But, whether you’d like advice on everyday cleaning or seasonal and yearly care, you’ll find all our tips, suggestions and recommendations in our care guides.
The textiles in our fabric library range from pure linen to rich velvet and wool, and each one has its own character. Tone and texture can vary slightly from thread to thread, and expect to see the occasional slub in our linens and pile movement in our velvets. We’ve written an article about the personality behind each of our fabrics so that you can figure out which one best suits your home.
And, rest assured, all the feathers and down in our cushion fillings come from ethical, cruelty-free sources.
Sometimes colour between batches can vary ever-so-slightly. To be on the safe side, we’d advise buying pieces that are being used in the same room in one go.
