Sidcup's character was set in the 1930s, when estates arrived whole rather than street by street. New Ideal Homesteads laid out Marlborough Park from 1931, with its curved parade at The Oval. H. Smith and Company built the chalet-roofed semis of Willersley and Braundton Avenues, recognisable by their long sweeping roofs and bowed leaded windows. At Old Forge Way, in what was then Kent, Kenneth Dalgliesh spent 1936 and 1937 on houses of clay brick below, weatherboard and hung tile above, in the manner of Wealden farmhouses.

Chichester suits the Victorian villas off Hatherley Road and the cottages at Old Forge Way. Suffolk's quieter lines belong in the chalet semis, where storage counts for more than display. Henley fills the larger houses of Marlborough Park. Borough's freestanding pieces work best in a long rear extension, where fitted cabinetry would only narrow the room.
