Our 8ft Christmas trees bring the full Nordmann Fir shape to rooms with high ceilings, at 240cm tall, with a 9ft tree at 270cm. Choose pre-lit or unlit at 8ft, and finish the base with a Silverton rattan tree skirt.

An 8ft Christmas tree is for a room with height to spare, and it looks its best where a seven-foot tree would leave an obvious gap overhead. "For rooms with grander proportions and particularly high ceilings, our 8ft and 9ft trees look fantastic," says our design director, Fred. At 240cm, an 8ft tree needs a ceiling of about 2.7m to leave room for a topper, which is more than many homes have, so measure before you fall for one.
Height changes how a tree is seen. A tree this tall is looked up at and taken in from across the room, so its shape has to hold from a distance as well as close up. The Nordmann Fir shape carries that well: 4,754 tips over 64 branches keep an 8ft tree full from every angle, the top included.
The 8ft pre-lit Christmas tree carries 1,200 warm white micro-LEDs. The 8ft unlit tree is the same tree without them, and it is the tallest of our trees to come unlit.
The 9ft tree is not simply the 8ft stretched. It has 90 branches to the 8ft's 64, and 6,335 tips to its 4,754: a third more foliage for 30cm more height, so it looks denser as well as taller. Yet it is only 10cm wider, at 175cm against 165cm, which means the extra height costs very little extra floor. That makes nine feet the height for a double-height hallway, a tall space, or an open-plan room with a very high ceiling, where there is plenty of height to fill but not much floor to give up.
The 9ft tree is pre-lit only, with 1,300 warm white micro-LEDs. At both heights, the Silverton rattan tree skirt comes in a matching 8ft or 9ft size, handwoven from natural rattan to finish the base of a tree this large.
For a classic glow, 800 to 1,000 lights is the usual guide for an 8ft Christmas tree. Our 8ft pre-lit Christmas tree goes beyond that, with 1,200 warm white micro-LEDs, to suit a tree seen from further across the room. The lights are woven through the branches, so they reach the inner branches that a string wrapped around the outside would miss, and there are eight settings, switched on and off at your feet. If you are lighting the 8ft unlit tree yourself, around 800 gives a traditional look and 1,200 matches our pre-lit version. Plan the run so that only one plug ends up at the base. For a 9ft tree, 900 to 1,200 lights give a classic glow, and ours goes further, with 1,300 for a richer, fuller light.
Allow about 2.7m for an 8ft tree and about 3m for a 9ft one. Our 8ft trees stand 240cm tall, and the 9ft 270cm, and each needs headroom for whatever crowns it, so 30cm of clearance is a sensible minimum. Take the measurement where the tree is going, because a beam, a cornice or a lower ceiling in a bay can take several centimetres away from the figure in the middle of the room. If your ceiling falls between 2.4m and 2.7m, our 7ft Christmas trees are the safer choice, and the room will still feel generous around them.
There is an unlit 8ft tree, and the 9ft tree is pre-lit only. The 8ft unlit Christmas tree is the same Nordmann Fir as the pre-lit version, with 64 branches, 4,754 tips and a 165cm spread, and it arrives with its stand, ready for lights of your own. That suits anyone who wants coloured lights, larger bulbs or a different look from one year to the next. At nine feet, the tree comes with 1,300 warm white micro-LEDs already fitted, which saves threading lights through 90 branches at a height that needs a ladder to reach the top. For all our unlit heights together, see our unlit Christmas trees.
Where the ceiling is highest, and there is room to step back from it. A large Christmas tree is seen from a distance, so it suits a hallway with a high ceiling, a larger room with a tall ceiling, or the far end of an open-plan room, where it can be taken in whole rather than from a few feet away. In a double-height space, the 9ft tree's extra density pays off, because there is more height to fill and the eye travels further up the tree. Keep the 165cm to 175cm spread clear of doors and walkways, and check that there is a socket within reach of the five-metre cable before you settle on the spot.
