Charcoal’s one to look at alongside Walnut if you’re thinking about off-black shades – this is the cooler of the two. Although it’s dark, it’s easy to live with, thanks to its chalky softness. For more of a contrast or statement, try pairing it with one of our lighter neutrals such as Silver Birch, Salt or for an even fresher look try pairing it with Snow.

Where we see it

Charcoal’s a great shade for a monochrome kitchen, used on cabinets with marble worktops and white walls. We’ve also used it in bedrooms, where it’s surprisingly cosy, especially with brass lighting. It can create a statement on furniture pieces or creating drama in a room by painting all walls or even just one.
