About the artist: 

Daisy is a portrait and landscape painter who works directly from life, whether it be en plein air or capturing a scene at home. Best known for her interpretation of light through brushwork, Daisy captures the spirit of her subjects in a painterly, fluid style. She has exhibited widely – including with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Chelsea Art Society – and her work has been recognised by some of the most prestigious artists’ awards, such as the BP Portrait Award. 

When an artist is paintingen plein air, it means that they’re completing the entire piece from start to finish outdoors in the landscape that they’re painting. It’s a way of creating very natural, of-the-moment pieces.

The frame on this piece is cedar, which we’ve left unpainted because the grey-brown colour works so well with the tones in the painting, and because the natural feel of the grain suits the subject. It has an off-white mount to give the picture some breathing space.

Because of its size (it’s one of the larger prints in our collection), this painting is a good one to choose if you want to hang it on its own. It works just as well in a group as well though. Try it with two other paintings in different sizes and orientations – odd numbers tend to look more relaxed than even ones.
